Community Writing at PVWW: ONLINE!

First & Third Fridays (6 - 8pm EST)

“Can’t say enough about PVWW, Joy, and her amazing team of teachers! Coming to PVWW has helped me build a community around my writing, breathe new life into my efforts, and get out of my own head a bit. And beyond that, I’ve learned lots of practical, nuts-and-bolts techniques that have vastly improved my work.”
— Emily Everett, Managing Editor at The Common

Winter / Spring 2021 • Open to Writers of All Genres, All Levels, Everywhere in the World • FREE & OPEN TO ALL

Open Community Writing Online

First & Third Fridays of the Month, Online Via Zoom

Join fellow writers for these fun, generative ONLINE writing sessions with PVWW instructors!

Mark your calendars, and join our virtual writing community! Meet fellow writers, get in a couple hours of writing, and start your weekend with some creative inspiration!

This FREE gathering for writers of all levels and genres happens every FIRST and THIRD FRIDAY of the month, 6 - 8pm EST. On the FIRST FRIDAY of the month, we warm up with and respond to a number of engaging prompts (each session's prompts are based around a theme, so check our theme schedule below!), followed by by (optional) sharing and discussion. Despite the session's theme, prompts are open and accessible to writers of all genres. On the THIRD FRIDAY of the month, there will be no prompts given outside of a quick warmup, and the session is geared toward writers continuing work on independent projects. Discussion and sharing will happen in the last half hour. Community Writing sessions are usually larger, always generative in nature rather than instructive - so it's great for getting back into the flow of your writing and/or writing in the company of others. If you're looking for smaller workshop groups that meet regularly or for craft instruction and/or feedback on your work, check out our lineup of online workshops & classes!  Community Writing does not offer craft instruction or feedback on writers' work.

NOTE: Community Writing will be held ONLINE via Zoom video conference, TWICE every month (first and third Fridays). Please note in the description how the two sessions are different each month. You must RSVP to receive the link to the sessions, but please RSVP JUST ONCE, regardless of how many sessions you plan to attend. It's the same Zoom link every time, and we email the same list of those who've RSVPed every time.

What Writers Are Saying About Our Community Writing

These workshops on friday nights have been a blessing during the pandemic time. Thank you.
– Susan Jepson
Very strong prompts, and I love Joy's enthusiasm! A great opportunity to be in community, generate new work, and form new relationships.
  • - Community Writing Participant
I always enjoy this time with Joy. Her prompts are inspiring & get me to go in unexpected directions & her facilitation is fabulous. Thank you so much for offering this free workshop each month. I really look forward to it.
  • - Amie Hyson
I always enjoy the energy and the company of the open writing nights. The prompts have sometimes sent me off in interesting directions I might never have tried otherwise.
- Peter Bishop
I am LOVING working with you, Joy, every other Friday. I have also enjoyed Kate's input which spurred me to join her Tuesday night class, which is also fabulous. Your enthusiasm, your commitment, your deep interest in process and craft and creative impulse make working with you feel great. I will be signing up for more classes this summer.
- Erika Higgins Ross
The prompts were so timely and compassionate in their approach. They were really thoughtful and full of potential-they all related to each other but were open enough to allow us to really dive in.
-Deirdre McKenna, Community Writing
It was great to be writing with the PVWW community again. This was as fun as when I'm in class in Williamsburg. I'm so excited that you've moved online! Thank you.!
- Theresa Chamberland
The prompts were great, the format was great, no pressure to speak, and [Joy] did a great job moderating... It was my first time participating, and it could not have been better. I was hesitant and not sure I would enjoy it, and I felt so comfortable and I did some great work that truly surprised me. It surpassed my expectations.
- Mary Doherty
I felt less self conscious than if I had been writing with a group in person, and more relaxed and creative. Joy is very encouraging and upbeat and provides a space for the writing juices to flow!
- Jennifer Delozier
The prompts are excellent general warm ups, and this past time one of them has cracked something new open for me.

What People Are Saying About PVWW

"Can't say enough about PVWW, Joy, and her amazing team of teachers! Writing is very much about the ability to sit in your seat for hours and put pen to paper, but coming to PVWW has helped me build a community around my writing, breathe new life into my efforts, and get out of my own head a bit. And beyond that, I've learned lots of practical, nuts-and-bolts techniques that have vastly improved my work."
