Suspense and Momentum: Sustaining Narrative Interest (with Sarah Jane Cody)
How do you captivate a reader from beginning to end, from the first word to the last? In this class, we’ll explore techniques to make your stories unputdownable, whether you’re writing literary or genre fiction. We’ll discuss how to handle stakes, pacing, and withholding information; how to create surprise and escalate tension; and how to write propulsive language. We’ll break down examples from short stories and novels to see exactly how they work. In addition, we’ll practice what we’ve learned with a number of in-class writing exercises. Open to writers of all levels and genres.

Refund & Credit Policy at PVWW
Because of non-refundable fees that we, PVWW, must pay for every transaction that happens, we are no longer able to give full refunds to those who register then withdraw from a workshop or class. If you withdraw from a workshop ten days or more before the start of the class, you'll receive full credit toward another workshop or class of equal value OR a refund minus 20% of the original fee. If you withdraw nine days before the start of the class up until the day before, you'll receive credit toward another class OR a refund minus 30%. If the class is canceled by PVWW for any reason, we will notify you and you will receive a full refund or, if you choose, credit in the amount of your payment toward another future PVWW class. Anyone who does not specify whether they would like a refund or credit within three months will automatically receive credit and will no longer be eligible for a refund. In the event of an emergency, we may consider a refund, minus our payment system's non-refundable fees. We handle these requests on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Joy (firstname.lastname@example.org) for this. You must make your request within the given season in which the class transpired.
