Come to Your Senses: Writing Sensory Experience (with Jennifer Rosner)
For writers of all genres, capturing the richness of sensory experience is crucial to evocative scene-building. In this three-hour workshop, we will challenge ourselves to deepen our powers of observation and description, and will write generative sentences that make use of heightened sensory perception. With hands-on exploration and prompts, we'll interrogate sensory connections with language, memory, and emotion, concretizing Diane Ackerman's quote: "We live on the leash of our senses." Students will have the option of sharing their newly-generated work in class, and will leave with several short, sensory scenes for use in new or existing pieces of any genre.
