Tarot for Your Character (with Cecily Sailer) - ONLINE
Crafting fully-realized characters is no small feat! It’s about far more than what our characters might carry in their backpacks, what they eat for breakfast, or what they desire in life. Our characters arrive in our stories carrying baggage — past traumas, parental programming, social conditioning, victories large and small, and relationships that shaped who they’ve become. Rather than trying to manufacture all of that complexity ourselves, we can turn to the mystical, storytelling art of Tarot to dive deeper into what makes our characters tick, what motivates them, and how they stand in their own way. This workshop is helpful for any writer working in a story format — short story, novel, memoir, script, or comic. Knowledge or familiarity with Tarot is not required or needed. This can be the beginning of an interesting journey working with the cards, which speak to us in story using the visceral power of imagery, symbol, and metaphor. You’ll begin to see how Tarot can be helpful in the writing process, and how you can use the cards to unearth deeper layers, new connections, and rich associations. This Tarot-driven character study will also bring new insights into other parts of your story as well, as all of the action, movement, and revelation in our stories arises from the characters who inhabit them. All genres and levels.
WHEN: 2 Hours: Saturday, August 27 (1 - 3pm EST)

RECEIVING THE ZOOM LINK: For one-day workshops, we send out the link to attend the Zoom session 1 - 2 days before the event, via email. For multi-week workshops, you should receive info and the link about 3 - 5 days before. Please mark your calendars when you first register and look for our emails. If you don't see the email in your inbox on the day before the class, please check your spam and junk mail folders (and search all folders) for an email from firstname.lastname@example.org before contacting us. We have found that very often our emails end up in those folders. This is based on your own email settings, and you can prevent this by adding our email as a contact.
ONLINE SESSIONS happen remotely, via Zoom video conference. All you need is a laptop, computer, or phone with functioning audio and a webcam. Those who RSVP receive directions and a link to "join" the session via email (please see above note about receiving the Zoom link). All online instructors will log on to the video conference a few minutes before the start of the session, so please plan to log on early if you'd like assistance! We'll do everything in our power to help you get comfortable with the Zoom format, though we are not able to offer technical assistance beyond basic Zoom orientation.
