Writing Coaching

One-On-One Feedback, Mentorship, and Guidance For Writers
Not sure if coaching is RIGHT for you? Tell us about yourself, and we'll be in touch!
Are you having trouble getting started or staying focused on a current writing project? At PVWW, we are first and foremost writers ourselves, so we understand intimately the frustrations, hurdles, and doubts that come along with this territory. Our goal is to help you meet your writing goals, whether that's an increase in motivation to write more, to set up a regular routine, to complete or revise a project, or to get your work out there in the world. Coaching can happen in-person (if you live in Western MA, where we're based) or remotely (via video chat) and is tailored to your specific writing-related goals and/or struggles.
Meet our WRITING COACHES & CONSULTANTS
Joy Baglio, Founder/Director of PVWW; coaches on consults in fiction, memoir, nonfiction, and publishing/career.
Kate Senecal, Assistant Director of PVWW; coaches and consults in fiction, memoir, and nonfiction.
Celia Jeffries; coaches and consults in fiction, memoir, and nonfiction.
Cindy Littlefield; coaches and consults in fiction, memoir, and nonfiction.

A writing coach can...

  • Offer support, mentorship, and feedback during sustained or lengthy writing projects such as novels, memoirs, or story collections.

  • Help you move past blocks and hurdles and get you writing again.

  • Motivate and inspire you to generate new work through prompts and creative exercises.

  • Guide you through exploring your voice, style, and process.

  • Help you navigate the publishing world and develop a plan to get your work out there.

  • Help you take your writing to the next level!

How Writing Coaching Works at PVWW

Writing coaching at Pioneer Valley Writers' Workshop happens in monthly packages. Each month-long coaching package ($250) includes the following services:

• 2 individually-tailored in-person (or phone/Skype, if you prefer) hour-long coaching sessions (or one 2-hour long session).

• Brief phone/email check-ins between your sessions with your coach, to support you in your writing.

• Manuscript consultation on up to 20 pages of your work (this can happen prior to your first meeting with your coach, or throughout the month).

* Coaching can also happen more frequently, though we find that two sessions a month (or one two-hour long session if that works best for you) is an ideal amount of time to get more in depth with your coach while also giving you enough time to write in between coaching sessions. Depending on your unique situation, coaching sessions can include reviewing your work and offering feedback, goal and bench-mark setting, outlining, small assignments to get you inspired, exercises to overcome blockages, and discussing the direction of a current project. Please let us know if there is a particular coach you'd like to work with!

**If your primary reason for seeking coaching is feedback and consultation on a current manuscript of any length, our editing and manuscript consultation services might be what you're looking for.

What People Are Saying About PVWW

"Can't say enough about PVWW, Joy, and her amazing team of teachers! Writing is very much about the ability to sit in your seat for hours and put pen to paper, but coming to PVWW has helped me build a community around my writing, breathe new life into my efforts, and get out of my own head a bit. And beyond that, I've learned lots of practical, nuts-and-bolts techniques that have vastly improved my work."
- Emily Everett, Editor at The Common
