Community Reading: Word Share

ABOUT COMMUNITY READING Community Reading / Word Share was created in the spirit of giving PVWW students, instructors, community members, and especially those writers who frequently attend Community Writing a safe, encouraging space in which to read work aloud as well as listen to their peers' readings. Come share the recent writing you've done Community Writing, in a recent workshop, ongoing group, residency, or on your own! Share from a recently published story you'd like to celebrate, or from a stream of consciousness you jotted down at lunch today! We will offer supportive listening, encouragement, and gentle on-the-spot feedback for those who request it. Above all, we will practice the art of verbally sharing our work aloud while meeting others in a positive, uplifting communal spirit. While Community Reading will remain virtual, there may occasionally be in-person opportunities in Western MA to gather and share as well! GUIDELINES: • Upon RSVPing, please let us know if you will be sharing work (3 minutes maximum)! There will be approximately 15 spots for sharing. • We will draw names of readers randomly at the start of the event from those who express interest on the RSVP form. • Some Community Readings may feature a special Guest Reader who will read at the end. • Readings can be from works of any genre, style, or subject matter, but please use common sense and good judgment! Pieces with overly graphic adult content and excessive profanity are not good choices for Word Share. ABOUT THE FACILITATOR / HOST JOY BAGLIO founded Pioneer Valley Writers' Workshop in 2016 and has hosted Community Writing and many other readings, events, and workshops since then. Joy has moderated panels and presented at numerous conferences, including panels as AWP and Grub Street's Muse & The Marketplace. Her short fiction has appeared widely, in such journals as Tin House, American Short Fiction, The Iowa Review, TriQuarterly, Conjunctions, The Missouri Review, The Fairy Tale Review, and elsewhere. She's the recipient of fellowships, scholarships, and grants from Yaddo, Ragdale, The Elizabeth George Foundation, Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers' Conferences, The Kerouac Project, Vermont Studio Center, The Speculative Literature Foundation, among others.
