Editing with Yago Colás
2-Hour Editing with Yago Colás
Class Description
After purchasing a session, your editor / coach will reach out to you (via the email address you provided upon checkout) within seven days in order to schedule your session. All 2-hour sessions can be used for editing, coaching, or a combination of both! Consults On Memoir, fiction, hybrid and experimental prose, creative nonfiction, essays, full-length manuscripts, book proposals, chance-based and nonlinear writing, voice development, structure, revision, and process. Areas of Interest I’m especially drawn to writing that explores the porous, shifting boundaries of self and story—whether in traditional or unconventional forms—but my approach is rooted less in genre than in relationship. I bring to my editorial work both the precision of a trained literary critic and the openness of a Zen-informed creative practice. I read with care, curiosity, and close attention to what a piece is trying to be. Whether you bring a finished draft or a few uncertain fragments, I try to listen for the deeper patterns, questions, and desires emerging through the work—and then help you shape or reshape your project in alignment with those. I treat editing as a creative conversation: collaborative, attuned, and supportive of your voice and vision. About this Editor Yago Colás is a former professor of literature and writing who now lives in Easthampton, MA, where he writes, paints, consults, and curates a gallery/shop featuring Japanese-inspired ceramics and textiles. He is the author of several books of nonfiction, including Crooked Roads, a memoir composed using chance operations and grounded in transformative encounters from his years as a rideshare driver. His creative work explores impermanence, attention, and the relational self, and he is the recipient of a 2024 Mass Cultural Council Grant for Creative Individuals. Yago has taught writing in college classrooms and community settings for more than 25 years, and he currently leads generative writing workshops through PVWW. He has also been a student of Zen for nearly 30 years and is currently in training to become a lay dharma teacher.
