Class Description

Rejection is something all writers face. The journey to publication can be a challenging one and, given the amount of submissions received by most journals, journal editors often end up in gatekeeping roles. This one-day workshop, led by a writer-turned-journal editor, will provide insight into what happens once you send your piece out for publication. We will discuss common pitfalls many writers make and how to strengthen your chances of acceptance. The workshop will also provide a wealth of resources for improving your submission strategy, from the cover letter to researching journals. While this class will be more lecture-based, writers will have an opportunity to ask questions throughout. INSTRUCTOR ANITA GILL is a Fulbright Scholar whose work has appeared in The Iowa Review, Kweli, Prairie Schooner, The Offing, Los Angeles Review of Books, The Rumpus, among others. Her honors include Notable listings in Best American Essays and The Iowa Review Award in Nonfiction. She has presented on writing and craft at AWP, HippoCamp, the Belize Writers' Conference, and elsewhere. She is currently on staff at Hypertext Review as their Nonfiction Editor while finishing a novel. Find her at anitagill.ink.
